Description

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) is a non-profit organization of journalists and photographers who report on the entertainment industry activity and interests in the United States for information outlets (newspaper, magazine and book publication, television and radio broadcasting) predominantly outside the U.S. The HFPA consists of about 90 members from approximately 55 countries with a combined following of more than 250 million. It conducts the annual Golden Globe Awards ceremony in Los Angeles every January that honor notable examples of cinema and television and achievements in entertainment businesses.
Each year, members interview more than 400 actors, directors, writers, and producers, as well as reporting from film sets and seeing more than 300 films. After each interview, they always take pictures with stars and directors to be share and download for their articles and archive.

Problem

Knowing that most of the members are old people and not so confident with the technology, the challenge was to design an easy to use interface and have a searching option able to find their pictures with the talents or talents’ picture at the Golden Globe Awards.

Their old sharing system was complicated presenting the following problems: Thumbnails too small, unlabeled directories, difficulty finding the latest uploaded pictures, search option not accurate.

They also share pictures of the Golden Globe Awards (Red Carpet, Press Room, Ballroom) with accredited journalists and editors around the world.

Solution

I’ve designed and developed the software in a way that when members login, they’ll get to the latest uploaded directory as the first to appear when they and quickly find the most recent pictures.  An advanced search by name, movie title or tags will always be accessible from the header.
Also, thumbnails are large enough to recognize faces and choose the best to download avoiding extra clicks.
The main menu provides fast navigation through the gallery and the access to HOW-TO video-tutorials.
The same features are available on mobile.

Quote from one HFPA member:

“ Max had the talent of an artist, and on the HFPA photo website he designed, you could see all the photos on one page.
On the old website, you had to open 42 unlabeled folders to see ONE Press conference.”
